In a smoke-filled room, everything moves in slow motion as light flickers through the haze. You’re dancing alone—the party isn’t over for you yet.
This is the image I picture when I listen to “darlin’”, the latest single from Faerybabyy. A moving, yet sometimes dark, post-punk/surf-rock mix that holds you captive. “Happy sad love songs,” the artist’s bio reads, and it’s the most accurate description I can think of.
This surfy, guitar-driven, and melancholic vocal-filled track stands out from the rest of the genre. It’s not just background music or the kind of song you overlook in a discovery feed. It’s a vibrant, bold musical piece that deserves to be heard.
When I first played the song, I could’ve sworn I’d heard it before or that it was a cover. After some research, I realized I was wrong. I’m not sure whether that familiarity is a good or bad thing, but it definitely got me hooked.
Faerybabyy is a conceptual artist who perfects her craft in a uniquely personal way. Her Instagram feed and YouTube videos, filled with snippets from '90s teen magazines, are integral extensions of her music. They’re the visual diary of an artist whose distinct identity makes Faerybabyy, well, Faerybabyy—not someone else.
