Nick Bendzsa, a trap-folk artist from Montreal, Canada, just released a single that is not your regular indie-folk-morning-coffee song. Don’t get me wrong—this track would fit perfectly into your favorite city’s hip cold brew coffee shop background playlist (exactly where I’m writing this blog post right now). However, it comes with a twist. And it’s on the lyric side.
As the song’s graphic title already suggests, it’s about a sexual encounter—specifically, the end of one. A happy end in terms of the act, but not so happy in terms of the relationship, where the act becomes a way to say goodbye.
The artist’s unique approach to the thematic elements of his music isn’t the only thing that keeps you nodding along. The song itself is really good. It’s got a vibe—a sad one—but a vibe nonetheless. The mellow guitar melodies sway you, and the additional string and pipe instruments glue everything together tenderly.
Arrangement-wise, the track grabs your attention from the very first second. It does a great job telling the story while introducing interesting new colors throughout the song. And in the end, it delivers a heartfelt guitar solo that feels like another kind of happy ending.
Nick promises the full album will be released on May 23, 2025, on all major streaming platforms and Bandcamp. That’s worth noting—it's exciting to think about what he’ll bring next.
In the meantime, enjoy the song on IndieWave FM’s Easy Morning with Acoustic Folk playlist.
