Molly Maguires, an indie band from New England in the US, released a loud and bold single, “For a Few $ More,” that, like a wake-up call, urges you to stand for your values.

The record sounds incredibly live, with an almost ’60s/’70s-era vibe—especially when listening through earphones, you can hear the band right in your room. Heavily accompanied by wind instruments, “For a Few $ More” is not your standard rock’n’roll track. It mixes an emotional, almost aggressive, vocal mood with powerful yet melodic instrumentation.

Lyric-wise, it uses direct speech—and it’s not for calm or soothing vibe-seekers. It addresses themes such as greed, corruption, and the search for good in a life full of it. The band name Molly Maguires reinforces the song’s message by referencing a group of 19th-century Irish-American coal miners—called the Molly Maguires—who resisted exploitation and stood for justice over greed.

The band seem to know where they stand, and at least that’s a strong starting point. Not to mention, the single itself—and the whole album Public Enemies, from which the song is taken—is something every classic rock hippie would love. The rest of the album, which is a bit easier and softer music-wise, has more great songs. Especially “Dan Cooper” is the one to check out, in my opinion!

If this single is any indication, Molly Maguires aren’t just reviving rock’n’roll—they’re giving it a backbone.
