It’s always great to step out of your routine and get a fresh gust of air, and I especially love doing that when discovering music. That’s why today’s find is a bit untypical for this blog’s genre, but don’t get scared away by that—stay with me for a bit.

“MY BAD” came across my music player of choice and instantly got my attention. An R&B & Soul piece with poetic lyrics and an undoubtedly catchy groove, it’s a single released just a week ago by AHSIA, an emerging singer and songwriter from Vancouver, Canada.

I was digging for some more information and found out her passion for music began at the age of eight. Since then, AHSIA has taken to stages across Canada and the U.S., showcasing her versatile blend of R&B, Soul, and Hip-Hop. Outside of music, she dedicates her time to music education and puts much effort into using her energy to amplify the voices of marginalized communities, including LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC.

Her power and energy are undoubtedly felt in the music she puts out there. You don’t have to be an Afrobeat fan to soon find yourself nodding your head along to “MY BAD” or the other work AHSIA consistently delivers. Speaking as real-world evidence here.

According to the latest post by the artist herself, the song is about self-acceptance, setting boundaries, and taking accountability without losing yourself. It emphasizes that making mistakes is human, but shrinking yourself to fit someone else's narrative isn't necessary.

The message encourages standing up for yourself, protecting your peace, and embracing the fact that you might be seen as a "villain" in someone else's story, but that doesn't define who you truly are.

I will keep an eye on what AHSIA delivers next—the promise here is real!
