“If Disco, Funk, and Pop had a lovechild in the form of a breakfast sandwich, what would it taste like?” the band asks in their bio. Well, I’ll tell you: it would taste like Supertaste. Definitely.
Supertaste and their debut album Supernova are a must-discover for every Parcels and Poolside fan. As someone who loves both of those bands, I can confidently say that after listening to Supernova, I’m now a fan of all three.
What amazed me most about the track “Supernova” – and the entire album that shares its name – is how effortlessly it makes you feel at ease. Not that the music itself sounds easy, but it’s the feeling it evokes. The track is packed with groove, sophisticated melodies, solos, and even symphonic elements. Yet, despite the complexity unfolding on the other side of my headphones, my ears are left to simply relax and enjoy the experience.
Diving into the whole album, the artists’ itch to experiment with genres and sounds is unmistakable. Listening through Supernova takes you on a journey from dark, synthesizer-drenched soundscapes (“T-90”) to funky, sleek guitar vibes (“Play2Lose”). The grooves shift effortlessly from '80s-inspired Italo Disco funk (“Protostar”) to sing-along-worthy Pop (“Nothing Good Happens After Midnight”).
I don’t need to reiterate how impressed I am with this discovery. I’m genuinely thrilled to include Supernova in IndieWave FM’s Indietronica Poolparty playlist – and I think it’s a perfect fit.
